Camden News is seeking a general assignment reporter. This pivotal role involves receiving assignments and evaluating leads and tips to develop story ideas. It includes gathering, organizing, and verifying factual information and writing clear, accurate news and feature stories using a computer. Additionally, responsibilities may involve monitoring police, fire, or other communications systems for leads, taking photographs and/or videos to illustrate stories, rewriting stories, taking dictation from reporters in the field, editing or assisting in editing other stories and performing other assigned duties. Your contribution as a reporter is crucial to our news organization, and we value your role in keeping our community informed.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include understanding journalistic techniques and procedures, proficiency in computer operations, correct grammar, spelling, and math skills, knowledge of freedom of information and libel laws, interviewing and observation skills, effective written and oral communication, ability to work under deadline-driven, stressful situations, ability to identify and/or create story ideas and follow through, ability to work independently with general supervision, ability to communicate with various stakeholders effectively, and ability to perform tasks outside in all weather conditions and terrains.

For this role, we're looking for candidates with a degree in journalism from an accredited college or equivalent experience. A minimum of five years of experience, preferably in a daily newspaper, is preferred. Transportation requirements include possessing a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, having reliable transportation, and providing proof of insurance with the employer listed as an additional interested party. These qualifications are crucial to ensure the successful execution of the role. This is a safety-sensitive position. The candidate must pass drug screening and background checks and have a satisfactory driving record.
